Everyone that uses the Makaton communication programme do so for a reason, this little dude is our reason!

He is our favourite extra chromosome and the reason our family started to learn Makaton. Ellis rocks Downs Syndrome and makes our world a better place.  The dude is non-verbal/delayed speech and uses Makaton to communicate his wants and needs!

Shower, food and please are most definitely his favourite signs and boy does he know how to use them to get what he wants! oh, we forgot ‘ice cream’!

In 2019/2020 Ellis began school and our family began learning small amounts of Makaton from his teaching assistant and school team. Jill (now our Makaton tutor) went on take her 4 Makaton levels and Ellis’ Granny up to level 2. More recently Jill qualified in order to share her knowledge with the family, assist Ellis as he grows and learns, but also to help other families and professionals that may find they are in need of the programme!
